Hanna Piipponen is a North Karelian shoemaker, making handmade, traditional footwear in her atelier.
Hanna's atelier, where she makes her unique, tradition-based collection of footwear, leather jewelry, bow ties and other leather artisanal products, is to be found in Tuupovaara's Ullakko (Attic), a village gathering place housed in an old school. The name Pikitikki (Pitched stitch) is derived from the pitched thread and boar bristles used to stitch leather.
Pikitikki endeavors to make product sustainability a priority, while avoiding a disposable product mindset. When accountable and sustainable materials are used, artisanal products are long lived and repairable.
PIEK – footwear and leather artisanal products are designed to be used. They are functional and above all comfortable to use. The design of an artisanal product plays an important role in its life cycle. Simple models and lines are sustainable, despite the pressure of changing fashion trends.
